The eligibility criteria for the award are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ng-star-inserted\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li class=\"ng-star-inserted\">\n<p class=\"ng-star-inserted\"><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\">Acts of physical or moral courage displayed by an individual in saving the lives and properties of members of another community, caste, or ethnic group, during times of social conflict.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"ng-star-inserted\">\n<p class=\"ng-star-inserted\"><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\">Acts where the rescuer faced a substantial risk to their own life, body, or property or to their family member\u2019s life.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"ng-star-inserted\">\n<p class=\"ng-star-inserted\"><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\">Individuals from all walks of life are eligible, except for Armed Forces, Police, and Fire Service personnel or government servants who acted within their official capacity.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"ng-star-inserted\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong class=\"ng-star-inserted\"><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\">Criteria for Different Grades<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"ng-star-inserted\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\">The three grades of the award recognize varying levels of courage and risk:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ng-star-inserted\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li class=\"ng-star-inserted\">\n<p class=\"ng-star-inserted\"><strong class=\"ng-star-inserted\"><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\">Grade I:<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\">\u00a0Awarded for acts where the rescuer faced very grave danger, potentially resulting in death or permanent incapacitation while saving others.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"ng-star-inserted\">\n<p class=\"ng-star-inserted\"><strong class=\"ng-star-inserted\"><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\">Grade II:<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\">\u00a0Awarded for acts where the rescuer faced considerable danger resulting in bodily injury to the rescuer, while saving lives and properties.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"ng-star-inserted\">\n<p class=\"ng-star-inserted\"><strong class=\"ng-star-inserted\"><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\">Grade III:<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\">\u00a0Awarded for general acts of courage and promptitude in saving the life and property.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"ng-star-inserted\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong class=\"ng-star-inserted\"><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\">Selection Process and Timing<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"ng-star-inserted\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\">Nominations for the award are made through State Governments and Union Territory administrations. A Screening Committee, consisting of the Union Home Secretary, Director (Intelligence Bureau), and Secretary (Ministry of Social Justice &amp; Empowerment), assesses proposals.
