Recognizing the potential of inland waterways for transportation and trade, the Act aimed to create a dedicated authority to manage and improve these vital resources. This Act falls under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"ng-star-inserted\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\">Enactment Date, Number of Chapters, Number of Sections:<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"ng-star-inserted\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\">The Act was enacted on December 30, 1985, and came into force on October 27, 1986. It consists of six chapters and 38 sections.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"ng-star-inserted\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\">Act Governed By:<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"ng-star-inserted\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\">The IWAI is governed by the Central Government, which has the power to issue directions, approve schemes, and supersede the Authority under certain circumstances.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"ng-star-inserted\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\">On Whom It Is Applicable:<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"ng-star-inserted\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\">The Act applies to the IWAI, its members, officers, and employees. It also affects individuals and entities engaged in shipping and navigation on national waterways, as well as those involved in the development and maintenance of related infrastructure.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"ng-star-inserted\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\">Penalties\/Punishments:<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"ng-star-inserted\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\">The Act provides for penalties, including fines and imprisonment, for various offenses, such as unauthorized activities on national
