Recognizing the increasing vulnerability of the elderly and the need for their social and economic security, the Act establishes obligations for children and relatives to provide maintenance, sets up tribunals to adjudicate disputes, and outlines measures for protecting senior citizens&#8217; lives and property. State Governments also have the power to make rules for the Act&#8217;s implementation. The Central Government can issue directions and review the implementation of the Act by State Governments.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"ng-star-inserted\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\">On Whom It Is Applicable:<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"ng-star-inserted\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\">The Act applies to parents, senior citizens, children (including grandchildren), relatives, and other individuals or organizations involved in their care and protection. It specifically addresses the obligation of children and relatives to provide maintenance for senior citizens who are unable to support themselves.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"ng-star-inserted\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\">Penalties\/Punishments:<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"ng-star-inserted\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\">The Act prescribes penalties for children or relatives who fail to comply with maintenance orders issued by Tribunals.
