The National Sports University Act, 2018, establishes and incorporates the National Sports University (NSU) in Manipur, India. Recognizing the need for a specialized institution dedicated to sports education, research, and training, the Act aims to promote sports sciences, technology, management, and coaching. The NSU also serves as a national training center for select sports disciplines, adopting international best practices. This Act falls under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Act was enacted on August 17, 2018, and deemed effective from May 31, 2018. It consists of 44 sections and a schedule outlining the initial statutes of the University, spread across various chapters.<\/span><\/p>\n

The NSU is governed by its various statutory bodies, including the Court, Executive Council, Academic and Activity Council, and Board of Sports Studies. The Visitor (President of India or their nominee) has certain powers, including the appointment of key officials and review of the University’s functioning.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Whom It Is Applicable:<\/span><\/h4>\n

The Act applies to the National Sports University, its officers, employees, students, affiliated colleges and institutions, and individuals or organizations interacting with the University.<\/span><\/p>\n

Penalties\/Punishments:<\/span><\/h4>\n

While the Act doesn’t specify penalties directly, it empowers the University to take disciplinary action against students as needed, and it provides for a Tribunal of Arbitration to resolve disputes arising from employment contracts.<\/span><\/p>\n
